A martial art is never more than the spirit and intent you put into it. I believe that those of us who regularly post here agree that it's not the Martial Art, it's the Martial Artist. Do you train to become a bad- ass? That's fine, until someone better comes along, and beats the living crap out you. Why do you train? To compete? That's a laudable goal, but is competition the be- all, end- all of your training? Aikido gives you pure training, and self discipline you compete against yourself. To an Aikidoka, their Art is meant to be used for self- defense, but it goes far beyond that into a way to become more than what we are. They are also a way of looking at life that does not rely on agression, but rather in acceptance and re- direction. They are fundamental in understanding Aikido techniques and principles. You speak of Aikido's treatment of spiritual themes and harmony. What if you are accosted by several attackers? Are you going to grapple with one and hope that the others take turns? I don't know what style of Aikido you have witnessed, but the fact is that atemiwaza, or critical strikes, are necessary to all techniques of Aikido. The concept of atemi is ALWAYS a part of Aikido. The most unique aspect of Go Jiu Bujitsu is its’ blending and utilization of equal components of traditional Shotokan Karate, traditional Jiu-Jitsu and traditional Judo in the white belt through black belt levels. No disrespect, but why do I feel like we've had this discussion before? To say Aikido has no striking techniques is completely false. It consists of a unique and effective blend of traditional martial arts, no nonsense self-defense, as well as military and law enforcement techniques. What is Go Jiu Bujitsu? Go Jiu Bujitsu (“The Way of Hard and Soft Martial Arts”) is a unique and effective American-made hybrid and truly mixed martial ART system that appeals equally to traditionalists, mixed martial artists and students of self-defense. However, now anyone can learn the UFC, MMa and BJJ techniques without the normally associated danger of injuries, physical abuse and cauliflower ears with the relatively new and “CIVILIZED mixed martial ART” – Go Jiu DOSHU MARK J. GO JIU BUJITSU “the CIVILIZED mixed martial ART” By Terry Wilson Let’s get real! While many love to watch and admire the techniques used in the Ultimate Fighting Championships and other no-holds-barred cage matches, only a relatively small percentage of the population want to take that kind of physical abuse and dangers of training in that manner because most people have to go to school or work the next day, take care of their families and generally like the way their faces look and want to keep them that way.
